In 2014, e-commerce giant eBay declared that there had been a cyberattack and the privacy of 145 million users had been compromised. The hackers used the credentials of 3 of eBay employees and retained access to the databases for 229 days.

In 2016, it was revealed that hackers exposed the user information of as many as 57 million Uber users and 600,000 Uber drivers. The hackers accessed Uber’s GitHub account and retrieved the username and password credentials to Uber’s AWS account.

In 2017, Yahoo made a startling announcement that it had been the victim of the biggest data breach in history. The privacy of 3 billion user accounts had been compromised.
